The PFA has launched a pre-season training camp for out-of-contract players to help them get new deals ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The 10-week residential camp is designed with an elite club pre-season model in mind, providing players from both the men’s and women’s game with high-intensity training led by the PFA’s specialist coaching team, alongside strength and conditioning sessions and full access to the PFA’s personal development services.

Up to 30 players will have access to the camp and PFA resources each week that the programme runs. In order to maximise the players’ opportunities to sign new deals ahead of the upcoming season, scouts and managers from various clubs will be invited to the camp to meet the trainees and watch sessions.

The 10-week programme is a larger extension of the pilot camps the PFA held last summer, with a number of participants signing deals with clubs before the 2023/24 season kicked off.

Support for players is significantly decreased once they are no longer affiliated with a club, whether that is academy players being released or seasoned ballers without a contract. For the PFA to make such a major effort to provide these players with new opportunities, great resources and, most importantly, support will make a huge difference in not only these players’ lives, but football as a whole.
