The PFA has announced Arsène Wenger as course director of a new first-of-its-kind undergraduate degree designed specifically for players currently in an academy setup, as well as those that have recently left.

The course is the first degree to be offered at the PFA Business School - in partnership with University of Portsmouth - providing players with career prospects off the pitch, in football or other industries. It is a standard, three-year undergraduate course, designed to fit into the busy and unusual schedules of footballers.

In addition to practical modules, the course will also incorporate study for the UEFA B Coaching licence, the FA Talent ID & Scouting Certificate, and preparation for the FIFA Agent Licence – giving students a strong skillset and wide range of career opportunities once they graduate.

The course is a game-changer, with the PFA providing young players with an opportunity they might not have had otherwise. In the past, support for players released from academies has been minimal as they learn to navigate the world outside of football.

Current players like Jeremie Frimpong and Trent Alexander-Arnold have created their own initiatives to support these players, but for the PFA to incorporate a strategically designed degree course into the academy system is a monumental and important shift in providing the necessary support for young players now and in the future.
