Following news last week that EA SPORTS' FIFA franchise could be in line to switch up their name, a new trademark filing taken out by EA seems to indicate what the world-famous franchise's new name will be.

RIP FIFA, here we go, 'EA Sports FC' – with that the exact name filed just last week with the United Kingdom’s Intellectual Property Office and the European Union Intellectual Property Office, with EA’s European paperwork was filed on Oct. 1 as a computer game software and online computer game entertainment.

A statement on the EA SPORTS website from Cam Weber, EA SPORTS Group General Manager, said that EA are: “… exploring the idea of renaming our global EA SPORTS football games.”

The statement continued to say that EA will be “reviewing (our) naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is separate from all our other official partnerships and licenses across the football world.” This could mean that the FIFA franchise could be rebranding in a similar vein to Pro Evolution Soccer’s switch up to eFootball this season.

While the game has helped elevate the prestige of FIFA's brand globally, the football governing bodies' relationship with UEFA may be behind the reason for the rebrand. You can currently play in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League in FIFA 22, despite two governing bodies currently in high-profile disputes over domestic and international football scheduling.
