Floyd Mayweather believes his fight with Conor McGregor should be the most expensive fight in UK history.
Negotiations are well underway to find a broadcast partner in the UK for Mayweather-McGregor, with Sky Sports Box Office and ITV Box Office reported to be the two contenders.
Speaking with GQ, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn – who has transformed boxing into one of Sky Sports' biggest attractions – revealed that the price of the fight for fans has proved to be a stumbling block.
Hearn said: "Mayweather wants the price to be £100...the price will be within the same realms as it always has. I don’t set the price, but my gut feeling is £19.95. Sky won’t want to go beyond £19.95. That is their price point."
While PPV prices in the United States regularly go between $50 and $80, a fight costing more than £20 in the UK is unprecedented.
Anthony Joshua's war with Wladimir Klitschko for the unified world heavyweight championship from earlier this year was costed at £19.95. Mayweather, who in McGregor he'll be fighting someone who's never had a boxing match before, believes his fight should cost five times as much.
