Chris Smalling is putting something positive back into the community to mark his birthday.
The Manchester United defender – who turned 29-years-old on November 22nd – has announced a campaign to raise £29,000 for Barnabus Manchester, a charity that provides a lifeline to the homeless and vulnerable.
Homelessness is a major issue in Manchester and fellow defender Vincent Kompany announced his own plans to tackle the issue earlier this season. Smalling wants to raise money before the charity's annual Christmas event on December 13th.
In celebration of my 29th birthday today I am raising £29k for Barnabus to guarantee a fun-filled Xmas period for those less fortunate. ??#29for29 pic.twitter.com/FkrdpnXn85

Smalling will be donating £10,000 to the cause himself, while campaigning for his followers to donate "a couple of pounds per person" to make Christmas a little more bearable for those in need.
The campaign is another sign that Chris Smalling is always happy to give back to the communities that made him. Earlier this month, he linked up with Football Beyond Borders to visit some young ballers in Brixton and share his story so far.
