Juan Mata has announced he's going to donate 1% of his earnings to charity – and he wants all other footballers to make the same commitment.

The Manchester United midfielder has announced he's giving up 1% of his wage and donating it to Common Goal, a collective fund that supports football charities all over the world.

It's believed that Mata will donate £100,000 to the fund and it's reported that if 1% of all the football industry's revenue abided the same principles, more than $30bn would be raised.

Speaking to The Guardian about the initiative, Mata said: "Football sometimes has a bad reputation. Some of that is deserved and some of it isn’t...football generates a lot of money but there has to be a social responsibility that goes with that."

What a guy.
