Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, has become the first active NFL player to have an ownership stake in the NWSL.
It was recently announced that Mahomes has joined Kansas City Current’s ownership group, joining his wife Brittany Mahomes, and financial executives Angie and Chris Long as a part-owner of the NWSL side. The Current finished fifth this past season, with a 10-6-6 record, but recently made the headlines after signing Brazilian star Debinha, who joins the Kansas-side having won two NWSL titles, three Shields and one Challenge Cup with the North Carolina Courage.

Despite Mahomes being the first active NFL player to invest in women's football in the States, he isn't the first major sportsperson or celebrity to see value in the women's game.
Angel City FC boasts a whole host of star-studded investors ranging from Academy Award winner Natalie Portman, Winter Olympic Champion Lindsey Vonn to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. And as women's football continues to receive the recognition it's always deserved, we're set to see more individuals recognise its worth and put their money where their mouth is.
